Algebra seminar by Charles Eaton

On Wednesday the 9th of October 2019, Charles Eaton (University of Manchester) will be visiting the Charlotte Scott Centre for Algebra and giving a seminar. His talk will be at 3pm in INB3305, and the details are as follows:

Title: Morita equivalence of blocks

Abstract: I will introduce and motivate the study of representations of group algebras via Morita equivalences. Group algebras are usually decomposed in to blocks, and these examined indivually. Morita equivalences between blocks preserve structural information but little information about dimension of representations. An open question in the area is Donovan’s conjecture, concerning the diversity of Morita equivalence classes of blocks, and this leads to the idea of classifying Morita equivalence classes.
