In February 2025, Dr Kisnney Emiliano de Almeida (State University of Feira de Santana (UEFS), Brazil) visited the Charlotte Scott Research Centre for Algebra virtually to discuss maths. On 05 February 2025, Dr Almeida spoke in our Algebra Seminar about his recent work on subgroup separability of Artin groups. Title of the talk: Two criteria for the subgroup separability of Artin groupsAbstract:
A group is called Locally Extended Residually Finite, or just LERF, if every finitely generated subgroup of G is separable, i.e., closed in its profinite topology. We will discuss two equivalent conditions on the underlying graph of an Artin group that fully determine if it is LERF. These results, obtained in collaboration with I. Lima, generalize the Metaftsis-Raptis criterion for Right-Angled Artin Groups.
