On the 9th of October 2019, Dr Charles Eaton (University of Manchester) visited Charlotte Scott Centre for Algebra and gave a talk “Morita equivalence of blocks”.
Abstract: I will introduce and motivate the study of representations of group algebras via Morita equivalences. Group algebras are usually decomposed in to blocks, and these examined indivually. Morita equivalences between blocks preserve structural information but little information about dimension of representations. An open question in the area is Donovan’s conjecture, concerning the diversity of Morita equivalence classes of blocks, and this leads to the idea of classifying Morita equivalence classes.
