Algebra Seminar by Paul-Henry Leemann

On Wednesday the 14th of April 2021, Paul-Henry Leemann (Université de Neuchâtel) will be giving a seminar on his research at 3pm. The details of his talk are as follows:

Title: Branch groups and the subgroup induction property

Abstract: Branch groups are groups acting faithfully on a rooted tree with big vertex stabilizers. They contain examples of groups with uncommon properties and appear in the classification of just infinite groups. In this talk, I will introduce the “subgroup induction property”, show some examples of branch groups that satisfy this property and explicit some of its consequences (for example the fact of being torsion, just infinite and LERF). Based on joint works with D. Francoeur and with R. Grigorchuk and T. Nagnibeda.
