Algebra Seminar by Tobias Rossmann
On Wednesday the 8th of December 2021, Tobias Rossmann (National University of Ireland, Galway) will be giving an online seminar on his research at 3pm. The details of his talk are as follows:
Title: Enumerating linear orbits and conjugacy classes
Abstract: In this talk, I will discuss recent work on enumerating orbits of finite p-groups within natural infinite families of such groups. I will mostly focus on linear orbits and conjugacy classes of unipotent groups, and on generating functions enumerating such orbits. The study and computation of the latter generating functions turns out to involve a curious (and sometimes quite surprising!) interplay of various mathematical areas, including algebra, combinatorics, and geometry.
