Simon M Smith was an invited speaker and participant at the (online) Banff International Research Station in August 2021

The week-long meeting was on tdlc groups via group actions, and Simon spoke about his joint work with Colin Reid on groups acting on trees with property P.

The Banff International Research Station (BIRS) is in the Canadian Rockies, and holds meetings on pressing issues in mathematics. Invited mathematicians travel from all over the world to the centre to try to address the issue, often working collaboratively.

Despite the online format, the organisers did an excellent job of trying to recreate the collaborative atmosphere that makes BIRS such a wonderful place.
