On Wednesday the 23rd of February 2022, Yuri Santos Rego (Otto-von-Guericke University of Magdeburg) will be giving an online seminar on his research at 3pm. The details of his talk are as follows:
Title: Cohomological properties of soluble linear groups
Abstract:
Soluble algebraic groups play a crucial role in areas such as algebraic geometry, ergodic theory, and the theory of buildings. Unsurprisingly, history tells us that the study of cohomological finiteness properties of their discrete counterparts — namely, soluble arithmetic groups — is of great interest.
In this talk we will give an overview on cohomological properties of soluble linear groups, particularly focusing on connections with the algebraic structure of nilpotent subgroups and contracting subgroups
of totally disconnected locally compact groups.
