On Wednesday the 2nd of November 2022, Max Gheorghiu (The University of British Columbia) visited the Charlotte Scott Centre for Algebra and gave a talk “Tate cohomology for profinite groups”. The seminar was conducted in hybrid format, with the speaker’s writing on the whiteboard in University of Lincoln also attended via Zoom link by participants in Lund University (Sweden).
Abstract: Tate cohomology for finite groups encompasses both group homology and cohomology. First I shall explain how one can generalise it to all discrete groups using a construction by Mislin. After outlining a few of its properties, I shall hint towards profinite groups and remark how the situation is there.
