Branch Groups and Maximal Subgroups: Seminar by Dr Anitha Thillaisundaram (Lund)

This week, the Charlotte Scott Research Centre for Algebra was delighted to host Professor Anitha Thillaisundaram (Lund University, Sweden) for our Wednesday seminar on 29 April. Her talk, “New examples of finitely generated branch groups with maximal subgroups of infinite index”, attracted a strong audience and prompted lively discussion.

The seminar formed part of Professor Thillaisundaram’s UK visit in spring 2026, which has included talks at the University of Lincoln and the University of Cambridge, with a further lecture at the University of Bristol scheduled for 5 May next week.

Her visit is supported by a London Mathematical Society grant, awarded jointly to Anitha Thillaisundaram and Paula Lins (University of Lincoln), and we were very pleased to welcome her to Lincoln as part of this collaboration.
